BIO: TIRAN PORTER
(Bass, Vocals)

Porter spent Kindergarten through 1st grade in all black school, skipping 2nd grade when transferred to a predominantly white school. He became interested in playing music after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. Then he started to teach himself guitar, but soon switched to bass. Porter formed his first band with three high school friends.

On his first public show, he met the people who would inevitably lead him into the Doobie Brothers five years later.

Porter spent from 1971 to 1980 with the Doobies, playing on all the classic sides. He was re-recruited in 1987 and stayed till ’92. Porter played with more bands than you can count on three hands.

Tiran Porter has come full circle with this present performance, playing the music of the people who taught him to play.
