Side Projects
Many of the White Album Ensemble musicians are involved in various other musical projects, including:
Dale Ockerman Project
Check out WAE keyboardist Dale Ockerman’s solo project and his album A Peace of My Mind.
Harpin’ Jonny
WAE guitarist Ken Kraft often performs with this amazing harmonica player.
The Wild Magnolias
New Orleans Mardis Gras Indian tribe with whom White Album Ensemble keyboardist Dale Ockerman often
performs, appearing at gigs such as World Beat music festivals and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Larry Hosford
Former bass player in Snail, and former member of E-Types, and Vejtables. White Album Ensemble guitarist, singer, and musical director Ken Kraft frequently plays with Hosford, whose second album, Crosswords, features George Harrison, Emmylou Harris, Jerry Miller,
Frank Reckard (of Emmy’s Hot Band), Leon Russell, and Ken himself.
Mighty Mike Schermer
A phenomenal blues/R&B guitarist and singer, Dale Ockerman performs with live, writes songs with, and did piano and Hammond B3 on his latest album. Schermer recently toured with Maria Muldaur and Howard Tate.
Moving Parts
Features both Richard Bryant (White Album Ensemble vocalist) and Dale Ockerman, along with Tom Ayres, Endre Tarczy and David Tucker. Funky rock, jams, Beatles, Steely Dan, Doobies tunes (including ones that Dale co-wrote), and originals. Often seen and heard in Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz and Mars.
Ben’s Engine
Dale co-wrote two songs, plays Hammond B3 and slide
guitar on the soon-to-be released CD by Ben
Margulies, a former SantaCcruz resident (Ben is a
drummer extraordinaire, lead vocalist, guitarist, and
producer who “did all right” by co-writing six songs
and sharing production credit for the first Mariah Carey
record). Dale’s one time employer and recording / songwriting buddy Bill Champlin also guests. Far from the Mariah style, however, Ben’s Engine is described as “New Classic Rock,” recorded meticulously in Ben’s world class studio.
Jerry Miller
Dale Ockerman and White Album Ensemble bassist Tiran Porter frequently play and record with this internationally acclaimed guitar legend, whose new CD is being mixed right now. Formerly from Moby Grape, a major
influence on Led Zeppelin (who did Moby Grape songs at
their first rehearsal; Robert Plant has covered
several Jerry Miller songs live and on record) and
the Doobie Brothers as well. Jerry Miller is a true pioneer of jazz-rock blues guitar at its finest.
Emrys Hanley
Santa Cruz-based singer songwriter whose CD is currently being produced by Dale Ockerman (a fall release is expected). Amongst other stellar musical supporters, expect cameos from Tiran, Richard Bryant, and Timb Harris from the White Album Ensemble, as well as Vince Black (Black Uhuru, Peter Tosh, Dub Syndicate), Barry Phillips, and Dale on Keys, Guitar, and arrangements.
It’s shaping up to be avery powerful record, with live performances coming soon. Often compared with Donovan or Cat Stevens, these are classic songs you’ve never heard before, with a Zeppelin / reggae / gospel flavor.
Estradasphere
Former White Album Ensemble guitarist Jason Schimmel is a founding member of this eclectic band.
