December 7th, 2008

The White Album Ensemble announces two new December shows at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz- Note that these are two separate shows!

Monday, December 29th, 2008 (New Years Eve Eve Eve)

“Songs from Across the Universe”

Original versions of the Beatles songs featured in the popular film “Across The Universe”.

As the WAE had already performed “live” all of the post-touring era Beatles Albums (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery tour, the White Album, Let it Be and Abbey Road), the extreme popularity of the film became a natural choice for a “next show” for the band. Combining new versions of old songs with original Beatles versions will be ’something for everybody, old and new fans.

A special student priced ticket (under 21) will be available for this night, as well as general admission, and “Universal Circle” for assured front center seating.

Special guests will include vocalists Alysha Antonino, Natalie Singley, Tammi Brown, James Durbin; trumpets- timb harris and Curtis Nash; and longtime WAE cohort Barry Phillips leading a string quartet!

Drew Harrison, one of the finest interpreters of John Lennon will join the band for both of these shows.

Tuesday, December 30th (New Years Eve Eve)

“Rubber Revolver”

The White Album Ensemble’s most popular show, featuring

“Rubber Soul” and “Revolver” in their entirety and original running order, as well as the four singles from that time, “Day Tripper”, “We Can Work It Out”, “Rain”, “Paperback Writer”, and some more special Fab-ulous surprises.

Rubber Revolver has been the WAE’s most popular set of albums, setting attendance records by selling out three nights in a row at the Rio on its debut, and garnering high praise from throughout the world.

A string quartet featuring Barry Phillips (Cello- Ravi Shankar, Concert for George with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and Ringo Starr) and timb Harris (Estradasphere, Secret Chiefs); as well as a horn section, and the exotic hand percussion of Steve Robertson will add to the authenticity and quality of the performance.

A raffle will be held each night to benefit Guitars, not Guns, a pro-music, pro- youth, anti-violence, non-profit organization.

tickets will go on sale mid November-

Songs from “Across the Universe”

Golden State Theatre, Monterey

once again, the popularity of the film gives us the opportunity to perform these songs with a combination of original Beatles versions, and the soundtrack’s versions, featuring some amazingly talented young vocalists, as well as the special guests, string quartets, and horns the WAE is known for, in their exacting detail of recreating these masterpieces live. The Golden State Theatre is one of the most beautifully restored vaudeville theatres on the west coast, go to their website, and see what they’ve done to make it a unique entertainment experience!

A portion of proceeds will benefit Guitars, not Guns, a non-profit corporation.

The WAE proudly joins the roster of such fine acts who play the GST as B.B.King, Vince Gill, Brian Wilson, Lyle Lovitt and Wynnona
